What does debt free mean anyway? Debt free means exactly what it implies, no debts. That means no credit card debt, no loan payments, no car payments and for a lucky minority no mortgage payments. Debt free living is not out of reach, it can be done. Here are a few simple and practical debt management tips you can use to help you get out of debt faster. 7 Practical Debt Management Tips1 Take advantage of low introductory rates - Those credit card offers you get in the mail every other day may not be junk afterall. Consider applying for the card with the best terms and the lowest available rate then transfer all your high interest balances to it. 2 Use the Snowball method - If you're unable to take advantage of low introductory rates due to bad credit then your best option to get out of debt fast is the Snowball method. 3 Avoid the mortgage-restructuring trap - Restructuring or re-mortgaging will take a bite out of the equity you've worked so long and hard to build up in your home. 4 DO NOT apply for a debt consolidation loan - Consolidation loans do nothing more than re-shuffle your debt around under the guise of one convenient and low payment. 5 Monitor your credit report & score - It's very important to stay on top of your credit report to ensure there are no mistakes or inconsistencies. This also allows you to stay on top of any disputed charges or possible fraudulent activity such as identity theft. 6 ALWAYS pay on time - Pay all your debts and bills on time to avoid costly late fees, penalties or tacked on interest. It also helps you maintain or build a good credit history. 7 Keep track of your spending - This is one of the most important debt management tips simply because it helps you ensure that you're not spending more than you make. Moreover you aren't incurring additional debt. TIP: That's my list of debt management tips but before applying for new credit cards or loans you should always read the fine print, understand fully what terms you're signing up for. When in doubt talk to a professional and be sure to explore all your options before making a decision. ^ Back to top of Debt Management Tips > Go to Money Saving Ideas Home page Visit Personal finance insights, a website that helps you focus on personal finance, financial literacy, effective money management and making informed financial decisions.
