Knowing how to make your money stretch can help you and your family get through the tough times ahead.

If you want frugal ways to save money that'll make an immediate impact on your bottom line you might find this list helpful.

8 Frugal Ways to Save Money

1 Live on cash - Getting on a cash budget is a simple but highly effective way to get your spending and personal finances firmly under control. Two popular variations of the cash budget are the money jar system and the envelope budget system.

2 Clip coupons - This couldn't be an article about frugal ways to save money without atleast mentioning the forgotten art of coupon clipping. If traditional coupons are not your style then be sure to visit sites like save.ca for online coupons.

3 Shop online classifieds - Free classified sites like craigslist and kijiji are great for saving money and finding the best shopping bargains. Also a great way to sell items without having to pay for classified ads.

4 Watch TV online - Ditching your cable or satellite subscription is a quick and easy way to save money and not nearly as painful as you might think it is. Sites like Joost and Hulu let you watch all your favorite tv shows for free online.

5 The list - When shopping for groceries follow these 3 simple rules: 1) Never, ever, ever do your grocery shopping on an empty stomach 2) Keep a running total 3) Never do groceries without a proper list. Following those 3 simple rules will help you stay on or under budget for groceries everytime.

6 Eat out less - Make a conscious effort to cut back on restauraunts meals. Few things drain the cash flow like a meal at your favorite restauraunt. You can eat just as well by buying and cooking the ingredients yourself.

7 No fee banking - Its just foolish to pay bank or transaction fees. Two ways to eliminate bank fees are 1) Have atleast $1000 in your bank account at all times 2) open an online bank account with ING Direct or President's Choice Financial. To eliminate those pesky transaction fees see step 1 (live on cash) of my Frugal Ways to Save Money list.

8 Be energy efficient - Getting you and your family in the habit of being energy efficient can add up to big savings on your power bill. Doing all the small things like replacing standard lightbulbs with compact fluorescent bulbs, unplugging electronics not in use, turning down thermostats a few degrees at night and of course turning off the lights behind you can make a very big difference in power consumption and ultimately how much you pay to the power company.
