Who doesn't love to go out of town every now and then? It is quite healthy to go on vacation every year, but its all too easy to go overboard and spend money that you do not have.

Fortunately, there are several things that you can do to save money on travel. Booking in advance, using up reward miles, packing light, eating bigger lunches and cooking in one's hotel are among the many things that you can do to save money on travel.

Money Saving Travel Tips

Book in advance - One of the simplest money saving travel tips is to book in advance. Almost all flights, hotels and rental car companies offer discounts to people who book in advance. In fact, many companies offer up to a 50 percent discount to those who book in advance. People who will be traveling need to try their best to book weeks and if possible, months is advance. Planning a trip in advance also helps you save up money so that you can pay for the things that you need.

The one caveat is that the discounted rate you get by booking in advance usually comes with a guarantee. This means that if you can't be there for whatever reason you will still be charged for the booking.

Use reward miles - This should be at the top of any budget conscious traveller's list of money saving travel tips but amazingly most air miles or frequent flyer rewards go unused. Don't let your air miles gather dust - use them. If you don't have enough air miles maybe someone you know is willing to transfer their miles over to you. Who knows? You could get a free flight out of it which definitely makes it worth looking into.

Don't over pack - One of the major mistakes that people make when traveling is overpacking. It is important to remember that you will only be going on vacation for a couple of days or weeks, so there is really no need to overpack. Most airlines charge for extra luggage so it is especially important for those who will be flying to pack light.

Don't over spend on food - People often spend more money than is necessary on food. Dinner is usually costs a couple more dollars than lunch so if you prefer to eat out you should consider eating a big lunch instead of a big dinner. Even though many people prefer not to cook when they are on vacation, cooking in one's hotel room is one of the best things you can do to save money on vacation.

A vacation is a great way to escape the stresses of everyday life. However, there is no need for people to put extra stress on their life by spending money that they do not have. Planning in advance, using reward miles, packing light, eating bigger lunches and cooking in one's hotel are a just few simple money saving travel tips that you can do to save money while on vacation.
