It's amazing how much money we all have hiding right under our noses. The list below might help you uncover ways to keep more of your money in your pocket.

20 ways you could be saving extra money

1 Pay yourself first - If you follow just one bit of advice on saving extra money, let it be this one. Paying yourself first ensures that the money you intended to put into savings get there before it gets used for something else.

2 Pay in cash - Credit card & financing companies are bleeding you dry, the interest you pay on credit cards and loans is criminal. Pay cash whenever possible it'll save you a ton of money in interest payments.

3 Do your banking online - It's ridiculous to be spending anything on bank fees these days especially when you check your account transactions instantaneously online for free. Banks charge you for printing and mailing paper statements - cut those unnecessary fees out by doing all your banking online.

4 Loose change jar - Simply putting all loose change into a jar at the end of every day is an ultra simple way to save an extra $10 - $40 a week. It could be much more if you have several adults all on board.

5 Sell unused clutter - One great way of saving extra money, depending on what you have to sell it could be a great opportunity to make alot of money. You could sell stuff that is just taking up space, have a yard sale, garage sale, advertise in the free classifieds or you could even sell it on eBay.

6 Return bottles - If you're not recycling your glass/plastic bottles and returning them to the recycle depot you are litterally throwing away money.

7 Pack a lunch - This can add up to savings of hundreds of dollars each month. Packing lunches is more work but the payoff can be huge if your used to going out to lunch everyday.

8 Bike or walk to work - The benefits here are two fold, 1) it's healthier 2) you save alot of money on gas.

9 Quit smoking - Another double benefit tip with obvious health benefits and potentially huge savings every month.

10 Cancel unused memberships/club fees - Last year's New Year resolution, the gym membership you promised yourself you'd put to use has been collecting dust. Cancel it.

11 Cancel newspaper/magazine subscriptions - You probably don't read the paper or magazine everyday - why not just buy the paper when you want it instead of paying for costly subscriptions every month.

12 Avoid vending machines - Pretend they don't exist when you walk by them at work, they're evil! What's more important short term gratification from chips or candy or long term gratification of saving extra money?

13 Bring your own coffee to work -A real easy way of saving extra money, anywhere between $30 & $80 a month depending on where you live. Instead of buying your coffee on your way to work bring it from home.

14 Cut back on childcare/daycare - Just taking your children to daycare one day less per week can be a substantial money saver.

15 Lose the cell phone - An easy way to save an additional $40 ot $75 a month, you probably don't need it as much as you think you do.

16 Borrow books instead of buying new ones - Always check your local library for the books you want to buy first, then consider borrowing a copy from someone.

17 Rent movies from the library - You can usually rent movies for little or nothing at your local library. It's a good idea to check there first before overspending at the video store.

18 Downgrade cable/satellite programming - See if its possible to downgrade from your current package by cutting out channels you never watch or just getting basic programming.

19 Dine out less often - This is a very common cash drain for most people. Making an effort to reduce the amount of times you eat out can add up to alot more money in your pocket.

20 Never do groceries without "the list" - Have you ever left the grocery store with that sinking feeling because you know you went way overboard on the grocery order? Bring a list of what you need and stick to it, guaranteed you'll never get that sinking feeling again.
